Chile’s Medel To Join Besiktas From Inter
Chilean international defender Gary Medel is joining Turkish league champions Besiktas from Inter Milan, the Istanbul club said on Friday.
Besiktas are in formal talks with Inter on completing the deal, the Turkish team said in a stock market announcement which usually precedes any transfer.
The NTV Spor website said that the player would arrive in Istanbul on Friday afternoon before undergoing a medical, after which there would be a signing ceremony.
It said Besiktas would pay Inter 2.5 million euros ($2.9 million) with the player earning 2.3 million euros a year over three years.
Medel, 30, has played more than 100 times for Chile during the country’s most successful period, helping them win back-to-back Copa America titles in 2015 and 2016.
Before joining Inter in 2014, he played a season with Cardiff City.
For years in the shadow of Istanbul rivals Fenerbahce and Galatasaray, the Black Eagles have won the Turkish Super Lig title for the last two seasons.
Besiktas thus claimed Turkey’s sole automatic Champions League spot and will hope for a drastic improvement on their group-stage exit from last time around.
They have already signed Portuguese international defender Pepe from Real Madrid and Spanish international striker Alvaro Negredo from Valencia.
